COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed House Bill 308, which classifies nuclear energy as green energy to encourage more energy generation. The legislation has the support of State Senator Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin), who serves as Chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

"Ohio and our country are facing a challenge to generate enough energy to keep our grid reliable for homes and businesses," Reineke said. "All energy is good energy, and this bill recognizes that fact and encourages the continued use and development of nuclear power in Ohio."

House Bill 308 was modified in the Senate committee process to:increase the term for a standard lease used by a state agency when leasing oil and gas rights on state managed or owned property from three to five years;
change the reimbursement formula for the Broadband Pole Replacement and Undergrounding Program to make the program more efficient in providing internet access to underserved areas;
clarify current law that enables local boards of health to use construction and demolition debris fees to monitor waste at landfills
"These changes will help numerous people in rural America access the internet for their jobs, education, and other needs," Reineke said. "Notably, the clarification on current law for construction and demolition fees is the first step to help Seneca County and other areas have stronger oversight of waste in their communities."

House Bill 308 now heads to the Ohio House for a concurrence vote.
