COLUMBUS —State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta) is announcing the Ohio Coal Research and Development Program's grant process is now open. Nearly $12 million in funding is available for advancing innovation in coal technologies, which will promote economic growth, job creation and environmental sustainability in Ohio.

"Innovations in coal can lead the way to economic development gains throughout the state," Chavez said. "Many communities and companies can benefit immensely from these investments, and I encourage qualifying entities to apply."

The Ohio Coal Research and Development Program supports projects that modernize the use of Ohio coal through innovative technologies and processes. Eligible applicants include municipal-, rural- and investor-owned utilities, non-profit and for-profit entities operating in Ohio, as well as educational and scientific institutions. Awards can total between $100,000 to $5 million. Priority is given to "project-ready" applications.

This round of funding came from the last state capital budget passed in 2022. Applications are open now through 11:59 p.m. on March 15. Apply here.
