Chavez Recognizes Division VII State Basketball Champions

COLUMBUS—State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta) recognized the Waterford High School Girls Basketball Team for winning the OHSAA Division VII State Championship.

"I am proud to honor this incredible group of student athletes in front of the Ohio Senate," said Senator Chavez. "I know that their community is very proud of all that they have accomplished and I look forward to watching their continued success both on and off the court."

Waterford seniors Avery Wagner, Kendall Sury, and Avery Smithberger combined for 39 points to lead the Wildcats to a 48-46 victory over the Fort Loramie Redskins on March 15. This is the team's second title in four years, having also won in 2022. The team ended their championship season with a 27-1 record.
