Chavez Shares Drought Information to Help Farmers
COLUMBUS—State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta) announced farmers in Athens, Belmont, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Meigs, Morgan, Monroe, Noble, and Washington counties may be eligible for emergency loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"The farming and livestock community in the 30th Senate District has been especially hard hit which will impact the entire state's agriculture output, and we must provide them with resources to get them through this drought," said Chavez. "I have had the opportunity to visit with several soil and water conservation districts, as well as many individual farmers, across the district and heard the many ways they are impacted. I am committed to helping the farming community in any way I can. I encourage them to apply for these loans."
The department has named 22 Ohio counties as natural disaster areas due to the ongoing drought. Farmers from these counties and 18 neighboring counties are able to apply for these loans, which can help meet recovery needs, such as replacing essential items. The deadline to apply is April 28, 2025.
