Governor Signs Highway Memorial Naming Bill
COLUMBUS—Governor DeWine signed House Bill 81 into law, which honors fallen military members, first responders, and elected officials. Included in this legislation is Senate Bill 310, sponsored by State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta). This legislation designates a portion of I-77 in Noble County the "U.S.S. Shenandoah Memorial Highway."
The U.S.S. Shenandoah was the first of four U.S. Navy rigid airships. On its 57th flight, on September 3, 1925, the Shenandoah was caught in storms and crashed in Noble County. This memorial highway goes alongside the main crash site.
"As we approach the 100th anniversary of this tragic accident, it is only fitting that it will be marked for those traveling through Noble County for generations to come," said Chavez. "I am also glad to see other designations throughout the district that will honor the military service of residents in Southeast Ohio."
Other designations made in House Bill 81 that will be seen in the 30th Senate District are the following:
Sgt. Todd M. Bates Memorial Highway
Staff Sergeant George P. Mizik (USMC) Memorial Highway
Specialist Five Frederick Wayne Taylor Memorial Highway
