COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed House Bill 81, which honors fallen military members, first responders, and elected officials. Included in this legislation is Senate Bill 310, sponsored by State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta).

Senate Bill 310 designates a portion of I-77 in Noble County the "U.S.S. Shenandoah Memorial Highway." The U.S.S. Shenandoah was the first of four U.S. Navy rigid airships. On its 57th flight, on September 3, 1925, the Shenandoah was caught in storms and crashed down in Noble County.

"2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the crash of the U.S.S. Shenandoah," said Chavez. "This legislation came to me from a group of constituents in Noble County who are planning to honor the crew and this tragic event. This crash plays a significant role in Noble County history and I am glad to see that it will be remembered in the district for years to come and by those traveling through Noble County."
