Senator Chavez Votes To Override Property Tax Reform Veto
COLUMBUS—State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta) joined his Senate colleagues in overturning one of Governor DeWine's vetoes on property tax reform.
"This is first step toward making sure property taxes are not only affordable, but also accountable to the taxpayers," said Senator Chavez.
Following the passage of the Operating Budget, House Bill 96, Governor DeWine vetoed 67 sections. Among sections vetoed was the restriction of political subdivisions to pursue certain types of levies including, but not limited to, replacement and substitute emergency levies.
"As Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, I saw firsthand the incredible strain that rising property taxes have on Ohioans," added Senator Chavez. "By eliminating these confusing and complicated levies, we are ensuring transparency and accountability. I look forward continued conversations on property tax reform."
Levies currently in place, or on the November 2025 ballot, will not be affected by this restriction.
