This past April, veterans, families, and educators across Ohio and the nation joined in recognizing the Month of the Military Child, a time to honor the strength and resilience of children growing up in military families.

A veteran and military child himself, state Senator Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) is proud to serve on the Ohio Council of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3), which works to support military-connected students as they transition between schools due to their parents’ service. The Ohio Senate recently adopted a resolution introduced by Senator Weinstein recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child in Ohio.

“Being both a veteran and the child of a service member, I understand firsthand the unique challenges military families face, especially the children,” said Weinstein. “These young people often change schools, leave friends behind, and navigate uncertainty with incredible strength. I am proud to serve on the Commission and to stand alongside families, educators, and communities as we recognize and support military-connected children, not only during April, but all year long.”

The Month of the Military Child was established in 1986 by the U.S. Department of Defense to increase awareness of the sacrifices made by military families. Ohio schools participated in statewide events, including Military Family Spirit Week and the #PurpleUpOhio campaign, showing visible support for students with ties to the Armed Forces.
