Smith Denounces Recent Antisemitic Events
Today, state Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid) released a statement regarding the vandalism at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery that took place over the weekend of November 11.
"I am angered to learn that Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery was vandalized over the weekend," said Smith. "The actions of the cowardly person or group serve no purpose other than to create division. Antisemitism is on the rise, and an attack on any minority group is an attack on our democracy. These attacks are designed to intimidate groups and individuals into the shadows as if they have no role or place in the ongoing American Democratic experiment. Efforts to silence voices and viewpoints must not succeed. All must be present as we seek to grow our community, state, and nation into a more perfect union. I applaud the actions of volunteers who spent their day removing the disgusting symbols."
Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery located in Brooklyn, Ohio. Approximately 20 volunteers worked to restore the 23 vandalized headstones on November 12. Please contact the Brooklyn Police Department Detective Bureau at (216) 749-1234 with any information concerning the vandalism.
