Smith Denounces Senate's Veto Override of H.B. 68
Today, state Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid) condemned the Ohio Senate’s decision to override the governor’s veto of House Bill 68, which bans gender-affirming care for trans minors and bans transgender student athletes from participating in sports that align with their gender identity.
“I am disappointed and disgusted with the actions taken today by my Ohio Senate colleagues to overturn the governor’s veto of House Bill 68,” said Smith. “The Ohio Senate again played doctor without a medical license, engaged in state-sponsored bullying of trans Ohioans, and assaulted the Constitutional rights of vulnerable Ohioans. All of this was done in the name of securing votes for the Republican primary in March. Today, the Ohio GOP ruined lives for political gain.”
Governor DeWine vetoed H.B. 68 in December and shortly after, issued executive orders and proposed administrative rules that are even more extreme than House Bill 68.
