Smith Files Complaint Over Ramaswamy Campaign's Failure to Disclose Expenditures
Today, state Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid) announced he has filed a complaint with the Secretary of State’s office regarding Vivek Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial campaign’s failure to disclose the specifics of its expenditures.
“Anyone running for office in Ohio has to report their campaign spending to ensure that the public is fully informed on each candidate and what their priorities might be,” said Smith. “Our state’s law is very clear that each of these campaign expenditures must include the date, amount, vendor name, address, and purpose of the expense. By refusing to include these records in their campaign finance reports, the Ramaswamy campaign is violating the spirit and letter of the law. Our Secretary of State needs to enforce our laws and demand transparency; refusing to do so would be negligent and a betrayal of Ohio voters.”
The Ohio Capital Journal recently reported that Vivek Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial campaign has spent more than half a million dollars but has not yet disclosed what that money was spent on, as required by Ohio law.
