Today, state Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid) issued the following statement in response to former FirstEnergy CEO Chuck Jones and senior vice president Michael Dowling being charged in federal court for their role in the H.B. 6 corruption scheme:

“I am glad to see additional federal indictments in what was described by the former US Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio as the largest bribery and money laundering scheme in Ohio history,” said Smith. “FirstEnergy hatched a plot to rip off everyday Ohioans to bail out their incompetent business decisions. They found willing co-conspirators in the Ohio GOP at all levels. I hope these indictments lead to a trial so the citizens of Ohio will learn the full extent of the criminal activity connected with the House Bill 6 legislation and the Sam Randazzo appointment to lead the PUCO.”
