Senate Passes Bill Reviewing Efficiency of Ohio's Unemployment Compensation System

COLUMBUS—State Senator Louis W. Blessing III (R-Colerain Township) today announced the Senate's passage of House Bill 614, creating the Unemployment Compensation Modernization Council, which would review the efficiency of Ohio's unemployment compensation system and report on recommended improvements for user experience.
"COVID-19 challenged our unemployment claims system like nothing before, and it is imperative that we adapt and improve the process for Ohioans," Blessing said.
The bill requires the Auditor of State to conduct an examination of the efficiency of the unemployment compensation benefit claims process and prepare a report with information and recommendations within nine months of the bill's effective date.
House Bill 614 would also provide local governments with an additional $650 million in relief funds provided to Ohio by the CARES Act for expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
