Senate Passes Blessing Bill Expanding Employment Opportunities for Physical Therapists

COLUMBUS—State Senator Louis W. Blessing III (R-Colerain Township) announced today that the Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 272, which will enable Ohio to join the Physical Therapy Compact, allowing eligible physical therapists to work in multiple states. Under the bill, residents of Physical Therapy Compact states are able to purchase a compact privilege in a member state and begin to practice physical therapy in other compact states almost immediately.
“This bill removes unnecessary licensure roadblocks in the physical therapy profession and will attract talented professionals to Ohio," Blessing said. "As Ohio’s 8th Senate District borders Kentucky, a PT Compact state, this legislation will allow increased opportunities for my constituents to practice in their field.” The Physical Therapy Compact is an agreement currently between 20 member states including Virginia, Missouri, Texas, Washington and Colorado, among others. An additional eight more, including New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Georgia have enacted legislation to join the compact, but are not yet participating.
Senate Bill 272 will now go to the House for consideration.
