Dolan Named Chair of the Senate Finance Committee

COLUMBUS—Senate President Matt Huffman (R-Lima) announced today that he will appoint State Senator Matt Dolan (R-Chagrin Falls) as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, the panel responsible for managing Ohio’s biennial state budget bill.
“I appreciate the trust President Huffman has placed in me,” said Dolan. “It has certainly been a difficult year for so many Ohioans and I am very mindful of the fact that the state budget bill represents the money hard-working Ohioans send to the state. As such, our priority will always be the prudent stewardship of those dollars to deliver a balanced, fiscally responsible budget that invests in essential services, like education, workforce development and returns money to Ohioans whenever possible.”
Governor Mike DeWine is expected to announce his proposed two-year state operating budget in February. The bill will begin in the Ohio House before making its way to the Senate for consideration prior to the end of the fiscal year on June 30th.
Senator Dolan is serving his second term in the Senate, after being elected in 2016 and again in 2020, representing portions of Cuyahoga county. Dolan served as Finance Chair in the 133rd General Assembly for the Senate, where he worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass a nearly unanimous $70 billion budget that lowered taxes for Ohio families and job creators, and made significant investments in education, workforce and the state's natural resources. He also served three terms in the Ohio House, where he served as Chair of the Finance and Appropriations Committee during the 127th General Assembly. Senator Dolan is also a former Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Geauga county and Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Thrasher, Dinsmore & Dolan and is active in the Cleveland community where he has served on several boards.
