Obhof Names Dolan as Chair of Senate Finance Committee

COLUMBUS—Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) announced today that he will appoint Senator Matt Dolan (R-Chagrin Falls) as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, the panel responsible for managing Ohio’s biennial state budget bill.
“Matt brings an extensive and diverse knowledge of financial matters to the Statehouse from his experiences in both the public and private sectors,” said Obhof. “I value his commitment to an open and thorough review and debate of the state’s operating budget, one of the most complex and important pieces of legislation we will consider throughout this General Assembly.”
“I appreciate the trust President Obhof has placed in me,” added Dolan. “I am very mindful of the fact that the state budget bill represents the money hard-working Ohioans send to the state. As such, our priority will always be the prudent stewardship of those dollars to deliver a balanced, fiscally responsible budget that invests in essential services, like education, workforce development and clean water, and returns money to Ohioans whenever possible.”
Governor Mike DeWine is expected to announce his proposed two-year state operating budget in March. The bill will begin in the Ohio House before making its way to the Senate for consideration prior to the end of the fiscal year on June 30th.
Senator Dolan was elected to the Senate in 2016, representing portions of Cuyahoga county. He also served three terms in the Ohio House, where he served as Chair of the Finance and Appropriations Committee during the 127th General Assembly. In that role, he worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass a nearly unanimous $54 billion budget that lowered taxes and reduced the size of government.
Senator Dolan is also a former Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Geauga county and Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Thrasher, Dinsmore & Dolan and is active in the Cleveland community where he has served on several boards.
Senator Dolan is a graduate of Boston College and Case Western Reserve School of Law. He lives with his wife and two children in Chagrin Falls.
