Senator Matt Dolan Prepares for New Biennium Budget as Chair of Senate Finance Committee
COLUMBUS—Senate President Matt Huffman (R-Lima) recently announced that he will reappoint State Senator Matt Dolan (R-Chagrin Falls) as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, the panel responsible for managing Ohio’s biennial state budget bill.
This will be Dolan’s third time serving as Senate Finance Chair. Most recently, Dolan served as Finance Chair in the 134th General Assembly for the Senate, where he worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass a nearly unanimous $74 billion budget that lowered taxes for Ohio families and made significant investments in the state's workforce, education, natural resources and law enforcement.
“Matt is one of the most respected members of the Ohio Senate, and he offers an incredible wealth of experience and institutional knowledge to the budget process,” said President Huffman. "I look forward to working alongside him once again to guide our chamber through the development of one of the most complex pieces of legislation we’ll consider throughout this General Assembly."
“I’m grateful for the confidence of President Huffman and my Senate colleagues in being given this opportunity to once again lead the budget process," said Chairman Dolan. “As my third time as Chairman of the Senate Finance committee, I understand the importance of prudent stewardship of taxpayer dollars and fiscal responsibility while investing in essential services to benefit all Ohioans.”
Senator Dolan is serving his second term in the Senate, after being elected in 2016 and again in 2020, representing portions of Cuyahoga county. He also served three terms in the Ohio House, where he served as Chair of the Finance and Appropriations Committee during the 127th General Assembly.
Senator Dolan is also a former Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Geauga county and Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Thrasher, Dinsmore & Dolan and is active in the Cleveland community where he has served on several boards.
Senator Dolan is a graduate of Boston College and Case Western Reserve School of Law. He lives with his wife and two children in Chagrin Falls.
