COLUMBUS - State Senator Matt Huffman (R-Lima) today announced he will be introducing Senate Resolution 552, calling on the Big Ten Conference to reconsider the recent decision to cancel their football season.
"After hearing from many concerned students, parents and coaches, we have been encouraged to convey our support for their wishes and our responsibility to defend the students’ long-term academic and career interests," said a letter to Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren signed by Huffman and other lawmakers from multiple Big Ten conference states.
The letter also expressed confidence that the testing, quarantine, and isolation policies that the Big Ten has established will keep student athletes, coaches and staff safe and calls on them to join other conferences across the country who have begun football and other fall sports with these practices in place.
The resolution will formally recognize the Ohio Senate’s wishes for the Big Ten Conference schools to be allowed to participate in the Fall 2020 athletic season.
