COLUMBUS-State Senator Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester) introduced Senate Bill 323, which would designate September 28 as "Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Day" in Ohio. Davidson was the first woman to serve as the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives.

"Speaker Davidson was an extraordinary leader who championed countless ideas that made the lives of Ohioans better," Reynolds said. "She was a mentor, a trailblazer, and a true servant. This day will help us celebrate her legacy and inspire future generations to lead with excellence and integrity."

Speaker Davidson served in the Ohio House of Representatives for more than two decades and was elected as the chamber's first female speaker in 1995. Her long life was dedicated to public service, including her mentorship of numerous women in politics and government.

At age 97, Speaker Davidson passed away on October 25. The legislation designates Davidson's birthday, September 28, in her honor.
