Reynolds Recognizes Ohio Teacher of the Year
COLUMBUS-State Senator Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester) recognized Mark Lowrie for being named the 2024 Ohio Teacher of the Year. Lowrie teaches broadcast journalism at Gahanna Lincoln High School in Gahanna-Jefferson Public School District.
"Mr. Lowrie inspires his students every day by challenging them in the classroom," Reynolds said. "He loves preparing them for the real world and future careers no matter what path they choose in life. Mr. Lowrie truly exemplifies what an outstanding teacher and role model should be for our next generation, making him incredibly deserving of this honor."
Lowrie has been teaching broadcast journalism for two decades following a career in TV newsrooms. He joined Gahanna Lincoln High School four years ago. Since joining the high school, Lowrie has built the broadcast journalism program into a successful and strong one. Enrollment in the program has increased from 27 students to more than 130 in three years.
Lowrie's students have achieved significant national recognition for their work. They have won seven National Student Production Awards and 79 regional Student Production Awards, also known as Student Emmys. Last year, his students led the nation with three student Emmy Awards, including Best Newscast and the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Award, which honors the top four broadcast programs nationally.
