Senate Passes Bill Honoring Speaker Jo Ann Davidson
COLUMBUS-The Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 323 today, legislation sponsored by State Senator Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester) to designate September 28 as "Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Day."
"Speaker Davidson was a trailblazer in every sense of the word. She led the People's House with conviction, integrity, and a deep commitment to serving the people of Ohio," Reynolds said. "Speaker Davidson championed countless initiatives to better the lives of Ohioans and opened doors for others, especially women. It's imperative we continue telling her story to inspire future leaders."
Speaker Davidson served in the Ohio House of Representatives for more than two decades and was elected as the chamber's first female speaker in 1995. Her long life was dedicated to public service and mentorship of numerous women in politics and government, including through the Jo Ann Davidson Leadership Institute.
At age 97, Speaker Davidson passed away on October 25. The legislation designates Davidson's birthday, September 28, in her honor.
