COLUMBUS— State Senator Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester) joined her Senate colleagues in overturning Governor DeWine's veto on property tax reform.

“I proudly voted to overturn the governor's veto," said Senator Reynolds. “For too long the property tax system has been needlessly complicated and confusing. Overriding this veto is the first step ward additional relief.”

Following the passage of the Operating Budget, House Bill 96, Governor DeWine vetoed 67 sections. Among sections vetoed was the restriction of subdivisions to pursue certain types of levies including but not limited to replacement and substitute emergency levies.

"No retiree who worked hard to pay off their homes should ever have to worry about losing their home because of skyrocketing property taxes," said Senator Reynolds. "This override is the first step toward bringing the system back under the anti-inflationary guardrails originally intended."

Levies currently in place, or on the November 2025 ballot, will not be affected by this restriction.
