COLUMBUS—State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announced today the state controlling board approved funds for the YWCA of Elyria in Lorain County to assist in their efforts to provide transitional and permanent housing for residents of Lorain County.
The YWCA will receive $109,800 to provide transitional housing for homeless single women, and female-headed households with children, along with $56,600 to provide permanent supportive housing for homeless disabled single women.
"I applaud the work of the YWCA of Elyria and was happy to support the Controlling Board and Department of Development in their distribution of funds which will assist the organization’s mission to house and support residents of Lorain County," said Senator Manning.
The housing will serve women with household incomes at or below 35 percent of median income, and the YWCA of Elyria expects over 80 percent of the residents of these facilities to leave or find permanent housing in the next two years.
"The past two years have presented numerous challenges for the YWCA of Elyria. "The funds granted will help our organization support the women and children in our shelters by maintaining housing facilities and providing wraparound services. With these funds, we can focus on providing exceptional services for women and children in Lorain County in the years to come," said Jeanine Donaldson, Executive Director of the YWCA of Elyria.
The funding for these projects comes from $8,455,900.00 the state has set aside to support low-to-moderate income housing programs.
