COLUMBUS—State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) today announced that the Lorain County Port Authority has received $35,000 through the Marine Patrol Assistance Grant. Provided by the ODNR Division of Parks and Watercraft, these assistance funds represent a continuing effort to keep Ohio waterways safe and enhance recreational boating experiences.

The 2020 Marine Patrol Assistance Grant will help local law enforcement agencies provide emergency response to boating-related incidents, conduct routine waterway patrols, and purchase safety equipment for use on marine patrol vessels. "I believe our best days are ahead of us and hopefully we will be back to activities, such as boating, very soon," said Manning. "I am pleased to see these funds awarded to Lorain County that will help to ensure the safety of Ohio's boaters." Ohio currently ranks 8th in the nation in state recreational boat registrations, and as the number of visitors to Ohio’s lakes and rivers increases, Marine Patrol Assistance Grants are vital to ensuring the safety of Ohio’s boaters. Boating-related fatalities on Ohio waterways have declined by 15% since 2010. Additional boating information is available online at watercraft.ohiodnr.gov.
