Manning Announces Funds to Protect Ohio Drivers and Waterways
COLUMBUS-State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announced that two communities in the 13th Senate district will receive $135,536 to help keep Ohio drivers and waterways safe in the winter.
The City of Avon Lake will receive $75,000 and the City of Elyria will receive $60,536 to update their equipment and facilities to improve road salt management and reduce chloride runoff.
"Protecting drivers during northern Ohio winters is imperative, and we have to find ways to do so we can preserve our waterways and our region's gem, Lake Erie," Manning said. "These funds will help these communities have the tools they need to keep your water quality safe year round."
These funds come from the second round of the H2Ohio Chloride Reduction Grant Program. The first round of grant awards were announced in May in which the city of Lorain received a $55,000 grant. Due to high demand, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency added a second round. $2.7 million will be awarded to 52 communities in Ohio through the latest round. In total, the grant program has distributed more than $4 million throughout the Buckeye State this year.
This grant program is part of the H2Ohio initiative, which aims to address water quality issues throughout the state.
"I've supported the H2Ohio initiative in multiple state budgets because it truly benefits every community in Ohio," said Manning. "This is further evidence that Lorain County is seeing good work accomplished as a result."
