Manning Celebrates Avon High School Championships
COLUMBUS — State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) honored the Avon Boys Soccer Team and the Avon Girls Volleyball Team on the floor of the Ohio Senate for winning their respective OHSAA Division II State Championships.
“The city of Avon is a city of champions,” said Senator Manning. “This is an incredible achievement made by these teams, and I cannot be prouder to recognize them in front of the Ohio Senate. I know that the hard work and dedication of these student-athletes will lead them well in all their future endeavors.”
Both teams won not only the first state titles for their respective sports in the school's history and in the history of the 13th Senate District, but both wins happened on the same day. This has never been done before in the state of Ohio.
In the championship soccer match, the Avon Eagles defeated the Kings Mills Kings in overtime to win the school's first ever state soccer title and the first in all of Lorain County. The team was led in their championship winning season by Head Coach Chris Dore.
For the state volleyball title, the Eagles defeated the Whitehouse Anthony Wayne Generals to win Avon's and Lorain County's first volleyball championship. The team was led in their remarkable season by Head Coach Kara Coffman.
