Manning Celebrates Passage of Homestead Property Tax Relief
COLUMBUS — Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) celebrates the passage of House Bill 479, which passed both chambers of the Ohio Legislature unanimously. Senator Manning was a co-sponsor of the legislation.
“Providing property tax relief to Ohioans has been a goal for the General Assembly this session, and the passage of House Bill 479 is a great step in the right direction,” said Senator Manning. “This legislation is a targeted effort to aid citizens who need this relief the most, and I am grateful to the legislators who helped bring the bill to fruition.”
HB 479 establishes the Property Tax Relief Fund with an appropriation of $350 million to recipients of the homestead exemption. Roughly 710,000 Ohioans will receive an estimated $450 property tax credit. The tax credit will be applied on homeowners' January 2027 statement.
The homestead exemption is a property tax reduction program designed to lower the property taxes of a homeowner's primary residency. Recipients must be at least 65 years of age or permanently and totally disabled and have an income of less than $41,000 a year to qualify for the exemption.
HB 479 now heads to Governor DeWine for his signature
