COLUMBUS– State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) and Representative Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) today announced their companion legislation passed in both the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives designating February 13th as Aortic Aneurysm Awareness Day. Presenting no symptoms, an aortic aneurysm is an abnormal enlargement or bulging of the wall of the aorta, the largest artery in the human body. Increased awareness and early detection are critical to managing the condition and reducing the risk of rupture and death. This legislation was passed on the eve of the 16th anniversary of the death of former State Representative Jeff Manning, who passed away unexpectedly after suffering an aortic aneurysm. “As one of the families that have been affected by an aortic aneurysm, this issue is personal for Nathan and I," said Representative Manning. "If our voices reach just one other family as a result of these bills, it will be worth it, and will add great honor to Jeff’s memory.” "My father had a significant impact on my life, that continues to, and always will, influence and guide me each day," said Senator Manning. "We hope that the passage of this bill will not only honor his life but encourage more people to get screened, and to talk to their doctors about prevention." Senate Bill 220 will now be referred to the Ohio House for further consideration and its companion legislation House Bill 364, will be referred to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
