COLUMBUS—State Senators Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) and Theresa Gavarone (R-Huron) this week gave sponsor testimony on Senate Bill 313, Ohio's Coastal Management Act.

The bill streamlines the Ohio Department of Natural Resource's (ODNR) permitting process for residential lakefront property owners and reduces the regulatory burdens and associated costs with owning shoreline property.

Senate Bill 313 creates a universal permitting system for landowners, enabling a simpler process for structures on the lake, such as docks and seawalls.

"This bill protects one of our state’s vital natural resources, Lake Erie, by providing a better management system for coastal construction and restoration projects," said Manning. "It also shields residential property owners from added costs by clarifying and simplifying the permitting process."

"The legislation is important for many people I represent along the Lake Erie shoreline. The current regulatory process for lakefront property owners is complex and burdensome," said Gavarone. "Senate Bill 313 creates a straightforward, easy-to-understand process for both ODNR and landowners."
