COLUMBUS—Governor DeWine this week signed Senate Bill 36, sponsored by State Senators Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) and Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City), expanding assistance for victims of violent crime. The new law expands eligibility for, and removes certain restrictions from, compensation paid to victims of certain severe, life-altering crimes and their immediate family members who require counseling. “This effort reaffirms our commitment to helping the most vulnerable in our communities during their greatest time of need," said Manning. "SB 36 is a victory for all victims and those who want a safer Ohio. This would not have been possible without the countless survivors who made their voices heard and made it clear that true safety isn’t possible without addressing trauma in our communities." "This new law will have a significant impact on providing relief for victims and their families. It updates and clarifies the law to make sure this critical help is available to those who need it the most.” said Huffman. "Thank you to Attorney General Dave Yost for his leadership on this issue, and to Governor DeWine for his signature, supporting victims here in Ohio." To read more on this legislation, click here.
