COLUMBUS—By a unanimous vote of 32-0, the Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 20 today, sponsored by State Senators Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) and Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood), to designate the first week of May as Stroke Awareness Week. This legislation will help educate Ohioans about ways to prevents strokes and help them recognize the signals of an oncoming stroke.

"When someone is experiencing a stroke, every single second counts," said Senator Manning. "Raising public awareness is crucial in educating people on symptoms of stroke that might lead to earlier detections and better health outcomes for patients."

Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death in Ohio and a leading cause of disability in the Buckeye State.

Senate Bill 20 will complement national efforts and help save lives across Ohio by promoting awareness of stroke symptoms and causes in the hopes that we may reduce the incidence of stroke across our state.
