Today, state Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) praised the Ohio Senate’s passage of the state’s Capital Budget, which includes over $2 million for ten economic development projects within Ohio’s 23rd Senate District.

“At a time when Ohioans are struggling from the ongoing pandemic, this investment in our communities is absolutely critical,” said Antonio. “When we make the initial investment in the arts, trails, mental health accessibility and so much more, not only do our communities thrive, but we are able to put people to work today and further attract people and businesses who will continue to invest in our state tomorrow.”

Local projects in the bill include:

• Cleveland Metroparks Zoo: $800,000
• The Beck Center, a performing arts and art education organization: $300,000
• City of Lakewood, Mental Health & Addiction Services: $250,000
• Edna House, the longest serving residential program for women in Northeast Ohio: $150,000
• City of Brooklyn, Trail project: $100,000
• City of Parma Heights, Cultural & Recreation Center/Cassidy Theatre: $50,000

Antonio also advocated for significant projects in Cuyahoga County that received capital funding, including:

• $2.25 million for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History
• $1.75 million for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Connector
• $1 million for the Bellefaire JCB Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital
• $1 million for the Playhouse Square Connor Palace Theatre
• $800,000 for the Severance Hall
• $750,000 for the Cleveland Museum of Art
• $250,000 for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank
• $250,000 for the Cleveland Rape Crisis Centers
• $150,000 for the Cleveland African American Museum
• $100,000 for the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage
