Antonio Applauds Release of Death Penalty Repeal Letter

Today, Senate Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood)released the following statement in support of the press conference held earlier today by Ohioans to Stop Executions regarding a letter from families of murder victims calling on the legislature to abolish the death penalty. 

“I commend these families for their bravery and commitment to justice,” said Antonio. “Capital punishment is not a deterrent to violent crime, and these courageous individuals know that. I look forward to hearing their stories this week as we continue to push with bipartisan support to end the death penalty in the state of Ohio.”

Senate Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio and Senator Steve Huffman introduced Senate Bill 101 in March of this year. The legislation currently resides in the Senate Judiciary Committee and has a planned proponent hearing on Wednesday, November 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the North Hearing Room at the Ohio Statehouse.
