Antonio Commends Governor DeWine's Decision to Delay Executions

Today, Senate Democratic Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) issued the following statement in response to Governor DeWine’s decision to issue reprieves to delay three upcoming executions in Ohio:

“I applaud Governor DeWine’s decision to delay the executions of three additional death row inmates. This thoughtful action underscores the timeliness and urgency with which the legislature should work to abolish capital punishment in Ohio,” said Antonio. 

“It is long past time to take a hard look at the death penalty and acknowledge that it has no place in a fair, just society. I remain committed to working with my Democratic and Republican colleagues, advocates, and the Governor, to end capital punishment in Ohio.”

Governor DeWine’s decision to postpone these executions extends the state’s unofficial moratorium on capital punishment. More information on the Governor’s decision can be found here.
