Antonio Commends Passage of Senate Bill 100
Today, Senate Democratic Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) commended the Ohio Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 100, her bill with state Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) to prohibit the installation of an electronic tracking device on someone else’s property without their consent.
“As technology continues to evolve, our laws must keep pace to provide clear guidelines on how emerging devices can be used responsibly,” said Antonio. “Senate Bill 100 is a vital step in defending Ohioans’ fundamental rights to privacy and autonomy while holding those who violate these rights accountable for their actions.”
Currently, Ohio law does not explicitly outlaw the use of electronic tracking devices, such as Apple AirTags, as a means of stalking. If enacted, Senate Bill 100 would make using the devices to track an individual without their consent a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, at least twenty-six states and the District of Columbia have already addressed privacy concerns raised when individuals track someone’s movement without their knowledge.
Senate Bill 100 now goes to the House for consideration.
