Antonio Comments on Transportation Budget
State Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood), who serves as the Senate transportation committee’s ranking member, released the following statement after voting to approve the state transportation budget:

“Right now, Ohio doesn’t have the resources to keep up with basic road and bridge repair projects. I believe this budget is a step in the right direction. It provides a good base of funding to public transportation, adequately invests in our infrastructure and will bring resources back to our local communities. I’m hopeful that in conference committee, we can come to a compromise focused on building a stronger Ohio.”

Senate floor amendments to the bill included provisions to:
  • Remove provisions that would undermine local labor standards for some construction projects
  • Remove restrictions on heavy hauling
  • Increase funding for public transportation to $55 million per year, up from $46.5 million as passed in Senate committee
  • Increase the Ohio Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for low- and moderate- income Ohioans from 10 percent to 30 percent
