Today, state Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) released the following statement in response to Attorney General Dave Yost’s decision to join 21 other attorneys general in a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) for their new rules prohibiting discrimination against gender identity or sexual orientation in schools that receive federal funding for nutrition assistance programs:
“I strongly condemn Attorney General Yost’s lawsuit seeking to allow discrimination against LGBTQ children. Once more, the attorney general is attempting to use his position of power and our taxpayer dollars to reinforce discrimination. The same group Yost identified as “needy” children that he claims to protect includes LGBTQ youth, who are more at risk of hunger than their peers. I expect our attorney general to work to ensure all children are respected, protected and have access to the resources their school can provide. Unfortunately, yet again, the attorney general has shown a callous lack of sympathy for our most vulnerable.”
