Today, Senate Democratic Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) responded to the offering of Senate Concurrent Resolution 11, which seeks to further attack the LGBTQ+ community.

“This is yet another exercise in the legislature bullying members of the LGBTQ+ community in Ohio and wasting taxpayer dollars through yet another lawsuit,” said Antonio. “As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, this heavy-handed and preemptive resolution is outrageous and offensive.”

According to the sponsor S.C.R 11, if passed, would urge Congress to “exclude sexual orientation and gender identity from Title IX.” In 2020, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Bostock v. Clayton County that the definition of sex in civil rights statutes includes sexuality orientation, indicating that protecting LGBTQ+ students as well as trans-athletes is within the scope of what the law understands to be sex discrimination.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 11 is currently awaiting a committee assignment.
