Antonio, Crossman respond to governor's proposed changes at Cuyahoga County Jail
Area lawmakers call for increased transparency, accountability amid turbulent year at the jail

State Sen. Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) and state Rep. Jeff Crossman (D-Parma) today issued the following statements after the governor announced several proposed changes Thursday to address growing concerns regarding the Cuyahoga County Jail:
“We are pleased Governor DeWine has heard our pleas for improved state oversight, transparency and accountability at the Cuyahoga County Jail,” said Antonio. “We look forward to reviewing the changes, and remain committed to dedicate the resources necessary to provide humane conditions in our corrections institutions.”
Antonio and Crossman recently expressed their concerns about the jail to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), and plan to meet in the coming weeks to discuss potential changes.
“We will be taking a hard look at the governor’s proposed changes to see if they adequately address the growing concerns we have about the conditions in the Cuyahoga County Jail and the state’s role in facility oversight over the past year,” said Crossman. “Every person detained must be treated fairly and humanely and employees should have the necessary resources to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.”
