Antonio Issues Response to Governor's State of the State

Today, state Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State address: 

“Governor DeWine’s speech today highlighted some of Ohio’s strengths, but it also shed light on things we must improve upon,” Sen. Antonio said. “We should all want Ohio to be a welcoming place where all families – including young people – want to live, work, and raise a family. We need to lay down the weapons of the culture wars and focus on how to build an Ohio that truly does welcome everyone.”

Following the State of the State address, Senate Democrats highlighted their plan to create a budget that works for everyone and invests in Ohio families and workers. Some of their priorities include fostering economic recovery; investing in education by fully funding the Fair School Funding Plan; ensuring affordable and quality childcare and early childhood education; prioritizing safe and affordable housing; protecting the environment; and strengthening democracy. 

“We seek a budget that works for everyone, a budget that puts the people first. We need a budget that will create ladders of opportunity and pathways to success for all Ohioans, especially our children. The people of Ohio deserve legislators who understand the assignment. Democrats understand our assignment– we work for them.”
