Today, Senate Democratic Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) issued the following statement regarding the passing of music icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton:

“Today, the world lost an incredible talent and an even better person. Dolly Parton exemplified so many of the best ideals that people can possess. She was a beautiful human being who encouraged us to celebrate our best selves. Dolly will be remembered as one of the most exceptional people of her generation, and her legacy will continue to impact those in Ohio and around the world any time her signature country sound comes over the radio or a child is inspired to read after receiving a book from her Imagination Library.

“Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library creates a more level playing field for our children regardless of their family economic situation. In Ohio, her legacy will live on through the thousands of children introduced to the joy of reading and the excitement of receiving a free book of one's own each month. I was proud to advance the Imagination Library of Ohio license plate, which will continue to support the program.

“She will also be remembered in the LGBTQ+ community as an icon and a fabulous, glamorous role model who embraced being and loving ourselves and treating everyone with dignity, respect, and compassion.”

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio mails children a free book every month until their fifth birthday. Any child under the age of five in Ohio can sign up for this free book gifting program. Ohioans can also purchase a license plate featuring Dolly Parton to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio.
