Antonio Issues Statement on UAW Strike
Today, Senate Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) issued the following statement regarding the United Auto Workers’ decision to strike:
“I wholeheartedly support the ability of workers to strike for higher wages, improved working conditions and better benefits,” said Antonio. “As corporate profits have surged in recent years, it is well within the right of laborers to demand more for their work. I encourage both sides to negotiate in good faith and come to a fair agreement. I stand with our brothers and sisters of the UAW and hope for a speedy resolution."
The United Auto Workers union began their strike at midnight in response to the Big Three auto manufacturers refusing to meet their demands. In Ohio, workers at the Toledo Assembly Complex are among those striking.
