Antonio, Smith Present Letter Regarding REI Labor Negotiations

Today, Senate Democratic Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) and state Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid), along with Northeast Ohio Democratic legislators, rallied with supporters and delivered a letter to REI’s corporate leadership calling on the outdoor retailer to continue good faith negotiations with workers who voted to unionize at the Beachwood, Ohio store over a year ago.
 
“What makes REI such a great store is your workforce – a workforce that provides stellar customer service and introduces thousands every day to outdoor experiences and your overall love of nature,” read the letter. “As a leading store in that space, you should also strive to become a leader in providing your workforce with better pay, benefits, and working conditions. REI workers deserve fair treatment and compensation, which should be seen as shared goals of both the employer and employee as that would lead to greater retention rates and increased productivity overall.”
