Today, Assistant Minority Leader Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) sponsored a lunch and discussion with Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil of India – the first openly gay royal in the world – Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington), additional invited legislators and other advocates for LGBTQ+ equality in Ohio.
“It was an honor and privilege to meet with Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil of India,” said Leader Russo. “To hear about his experience fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in India is inspirational, and it connects us to the broader fight worldwide for equality and human rights.”
The discussion centered around India’s progress in fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, legislation focusing on LGBTQ+ equality in Ohio, the fight to eliminate human trafficking, as well as the intersection of issues that vulnerable populations face in Ohio and around the world. Freedom a la Cart, a Columbus-based café and bakery that works to support the freedom and self-sufficiency of human trafficking survivors, catered the lunch.
Senator Antonio was unable to attend today’s event because she was meeting with President Joe Biden during his visit to Cleveland.
