Today, state Senator and Assistant Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) released the following statement after FirstEnergy was charged with conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud in connection with the $60 million alleged bribery scheme involving former House Speaker Larry Householder and House Bill 6 of the 133rd General Assembly:
“I am pleased that FirstEnergy is being held accountable for its actions in the largest public corruption scandal in Ohio’s history. However, this is just one step toward restoring trust in our state government. Everyone involved in the bribery scheme needs to be held accountable and the legislature should focus on reforming campaign finance laws and drawing legislative maps that give Ohioans fair representation. This is the second time in the past two decades that one-party rule has created a culture of corruption. We must work together to eradicate it.”
