Antonio Statement on Increased Support for Cleveland Law Enforcement
Today, Senate Minority Leader Nickie J Antonio (D-Lakewood) released the following statement in support of more state resources being made available to law enforcement in the City of Cleveland.
“Thank you to the governor for providing Highway Patrol support to the City of Cleveland and opening the door to more collaboration between the state of Ohio and the City of Cleveland,” said Antonio. “However, this is just a first step. In order to address the rise in violence and crime in our communities, we should take action on all levels. The legislature must address the calls from our public safety officials for meaningful gun safety legislation, fill open positions in our police departments as outlined in Mayor Justin Bibbs’ Raising Investment in Safety for Everyone (RISE) Initiative and continue our investment in community organizations that are on the front lines of violence reduction.”
This afternoon, Governor DeWine held a press conference to discuss details of state resources being deployed in Cleveland to combat violent crime in the city in partnership with the Cleveland Division of Police.
