Today, Senate Democratic Leader Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lawkeood) issued a statement following the introduction of Senate Bill 292, the Senate’s capital budget proposal.

"Investing in local projects large and small is critical for the growth of our state,” said Antonio. “The capital budget enables us to maintain and improve our infrastructure, support our education system, and create jobs. My only regret is that we couldn’t fund every project application. As leaders, we are responsible for allocating these funds and making hard decisions to ensure that Ohio is the best place to live, work, and raise a family. I look forward to continuing our work across the aisle and across chambers on the capital budget.”

The capital budget proposal comes shortly after the Senate introduced Senate Bill 288, which appropriates the $700 million in One Time Strategic Community Investment Funds (OTSCIF) set aside in the recent operating budget, House Bill 33, to be invested in Ohio’s communities. Some projects may receive funding from both the OTSCIF and traditional capital budget funds.

Senate Bill 292 will have its first hearing in the Senate Finance Committee tomorrow.
