Antonio Statement on Unanimous House Passage of Esther's Law

Today, state Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) released the following statement after the unanimous passage of Senate Bill 58, Esther’s Law, by the House of Representatives. The bill, joint-sponsored by Senators Antonio and Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware), aims to mitigate instances of elder abuse and neglect in long-term care facilities by permitting electronic monitoring of residents’ rooms.
“I am grateful to see such resounding support from colleagues in the Ohio House with the passage of Senate Bill 58. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us that now, more than ever, families need to be able to check in on their loved ones, including through electronic means. I believe this legislation will safeguard the lives of our most vulnerable older Ohioans and bring peace of mind to countless families.”
Senate Bill 58 now heads back to the Senate for concurrence.
