Today, the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus elected its leadership team for the 134th General Assembly, beginning in January 2021. The caucus voted to re-elect Senator Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) as Minority Leader. “I would like to thank my colleagues for re-electing me Senate Minority Leader,” said Yuko. “Covid-19 has put a tremendous strain on Ohio, and the task that’s ahead of us will be challenging. I look forward to working with Senate President-elect Matt Huffman and the rest of the Ohio Senate throughout the coming General Assembly.” Assistant Minority Leader Cecil Thomas (D-Avondale) was also reelected to his role. “I am grateful to have been re-elected as Assistant Minority Leader and look forward to working with my colleagues on improving the lives of all Ohioans,” said Thomas. Senators Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) and Tina Maharath (D-Canal Winchester) will join the Democratic leadership team for the 134th General Assembly as Minority Whip and Assistant Minority Whip respectively. “I am honored to have been chosen to join the Senate Democratic leadership team as the caucus Whip,” said Antonio. “I look forward to exercising leadership in the General Assembly for the good of the people of Ohio.” “I am very honored to have been selected by my colleagues for the position of Assistant Minority Whip,” said Maharath, who will be the first Asian American woman to serve in a position of leadership in the Ohio General Assembly. “I look forward to continuing to work across the aisle to pass impactful legislation for the state of Ohio.”
