Democrats Urge Continued Negotiations at Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital
Today, Senate Minority Leader Nickie J Antonio (D-Lakewood) and Democratic members of the General Assembly from Cuyahoga County sent a letter encouraging Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital and workers represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1199 to continue negotiating.
“It is our understanding that in recent contract negotiations for caregivers at the hospital, the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement, leading SEIU workers to call for a strike,” read the letter. “Given the accountability that a union provides and the high quality of care these workers deliver on a daily basis, it is troubling that these negotiations have led to an impasse. Unions are critical for the economic future of Northeast Ohio and our country…We hope that the hospital and the service employees will return to the negotiation table in good faith to find a fair and equitable resolution.”
SEIU workers voted to strike in July and have had two negotiation sessions with the hospital and their leadership. In the letter, members of the House and Senate encouraged the two sides to resume these negotiations.
